        Child is shown a container with very obvious content, but then opens it up to reveal something unexpected (a pencil in a smarties container).
        
        The child is told that a second person has never seen this before, and if this person was to come over and be shown the container, what would they say is in it.
        
        Correct (realist) answer would be the pencil, but it is not answering in the point of view of the new person.
        
        Actual answer would be smarties.
      - <3.5 years typically choose realist answers, 3.5-4 years is either really, >4 tend to choose correctly.
        
        Results robust cross-culturally.
      - sally-anne (displacement) task
        
        This is all acted out in front of the child.
        
        The child may answer that the ball is in the box (realist answer), which is factually correct, but it is not answering in the perspective of Sally.
        
        The actual correct answer (false belief) would be the basket, because thats where Sally left it.
