Modern types of work
Flexitime (= working on a flexible schedule)
the sonner they start working, the earlier they can go home in the afternoon
e.g. when you start working at 7 a.m. you can go home at
3 p.m. If you start at 9 a.m. you have to stay until 5 p.m.
There are core working hours where everybody has to be at the office (e.g. 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.)
Advantages
easier to organize one's life (e.g. appointments, family, ...)
workers are less stressed
workers are more productive
better work-life balance
people who work flexi-time can decide when they want to start working
Disadvantages
organizing different schedules can be difficult for employers
communication problems
4-day-week
They have one more day off but their work days are longer
4-day-week: 10 hour shifts
people work 4 days a week instead of 5
5-day-week: 8 hour shifts
Disadvantages
the same work but you must have it in these 4-days
Advantages
more freetime
telework (= woring from Home)
This can have benefits and downsides for both workers and employers
Equipment: computer, camera, speakers, keyboard, WiFi, ...
Teleworkers do their regular work (e.g. office work) from home
Advantages
cost-saving (no petrol for car, no ticket for public transport)
better work-life balance
workers are happier and more productive
time-saving because workers don't have to travel to work
Disadvantages
workers may feel isolated (no contact to colleagues)
can be difficult to focus on work (e.g. because of family, household, ...)
equipment can be expensive
