Energy in food - Coggle Diagram
Energy in food
how do plants make their own food?
they make food by carrying out photosynthesis.
plants with chlorophyll capture sunlight and make food using carbon dioxide and water (photosynthesis)
water is absorbed by the roots
carbon dioxide is absorbed by the stomata
the food is broken down during respiration
the oxygen produced enters the surroundings via the stomata
a growing plant will need more food
how do animals obtain energy?
they cannot make their own food
they eat other organisms for energy
some animals only eat plants (herbivores)
some animals only eat animals (carnivores)
animals that eat both are omnivores
why do living things need food?
living things need food to survive because they need the energy in food for their activities
they also need energy to reproduce
food needs to be digested or broken down to glucose before it can become energy
energy stored in food is released during respiration
why is the sun important to living things on earth?
it is our primary source of energy
we need light to see and heat for our body to function
