Toddlers ask questions using "who," "what," "where," and "why".
Toddlers between 12 and 18 months start using single words and understanding more than they can say.
-
Toddler will try to mimic the sound around them either they heard for their surrounding nature or the adults around them.
For example, for nature sounds is the sound of thunder, wind, cat and animals. As for adults mimicking they will copy the sound of an adult saying ouch when they are hurt, or cry or even a sound indicating the food is yummy "hmm yum"
-
At 3 years, they understand and use over 200 words.
By 2 years, they typically say at least 50 words and can string two words together.

Examples
-
-
-
Negation/Refusal/ Cessation of existence: “No veggie,” “all gone milk”
They can follow simple instructions like "Sit down" and understand two-step instructions like "Pick up the ball and bring it to Daddy"
Incorporate role-playing, such as using puppets, dressing up as different characters, props
-
-
Incorporate songs, rhymes, and action songs into your routine.
-
Sing songs with actions: Songs like "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" or "The Wheels on the Bus" are great for repetition and learning new words.
Use hand motions: Add simple actions to the songs to help your toddler connect words with movements.
-
Provide opportunities for your toddler to interact with toys and other objects, naming them and describing their features.
Point to and name objects around the house, in books, or during outings.
-
Incorperate storytelling by reading books together start with simple books, perhaps ones with short texts and pictures, and then progress to more challenging ones as the children’s reading skills improve.
