Events:
20,000 gathered outside the police station, demanded arrest for not carrying their passes, police arrested PAC leaders, Chief Pienaar ordered open fire on the crowd
69 died, 75% shot in the back
Aftermath:
State of Emergency declared - over 10,000 arrested
New laws: Unlawful Organisations Act, Sabotage Act 1962, Anyone can be arrested and held for 90 days (can be 180 days), Sobukwe Clause (allowed to keep people in prison beyond their term - Sobukwe was victim to this)
Radio communications increased to facilitate response to radical action
Bantu Laws Amendment Act 1964 - anyone can be deported from urban areas
