“How can different types of polymers be identified, classified, and sorted based on their physical and chemical properties, in order to improve recycling processes and reduce environmental impact?”
What are polymers?
-
Large molecules (macromolecules) are made of many repeating smaller units called monomers, linked together through chemical bonds.
Polymer structures consist of a basic chain of chemically bonded (covalent) links that form the 'backbone'. Some polymers have secondary parts (side or pendant groups) that dangle from these links. As these secondary parts are often exposed more, they determine how a polymer interacts with it's environment.
