each habitat has a certain env. diff envs are distinguished by physical factors such as air and water and tempertaure and light and minerals and acidity/alkalinity. these factors can be measured using instruments like data loggers and probes
-
how do our actions impact the environment which we live in but it has limited resources(fossilfuelsanimals)which will be depleted if we keep depleting them. As living things are closely connected to one another and their environment, our actions can impact our environment and affect the survival of other living things in the environment

CONSERVATION IS PROTECTING AND PRESERVIING THE ENVIRONMENT BY USING ONLY THE AMOUNT OF EARTH'S RESOURCES THAT WE NEED.

flow of energy
a food web is made up of interlinked food chains. notice: the producers are always at the start of every food chain or food web, because they are the only organisms that can make their own food.
Energy enters ecosystems in the form of sunlight.
Plants, algae and phytoplankton capture sunlight and convert it into chemical energy which is stored in food. Less than 1% of the sun's energy is converted into chemical energy during photosynthesis.
A food chain shows the sequence of feeding relationship between organisms. It provides information on how food and energy are transferred from one organism to another.
In a food chain, only 10% of the energy is transferred from one trophic level(position that an organism occupies in a food chain) to another. 90% of the energy is lost in the form of heat to the atmosphere from each level mainly through respiration.
Since heat energy does not return to the same system or to the organisms that produce it, it cannot be recycled to the ecosystem. Energy is also lost in uneaten parts of dead bodies, faeces and excretory products
In an ecosystem, the flow of energy occurs together with the flow of nutrients. Photosynthesis and respiration are involved in the flow of energy and nutrients in the ecosystem.
The last organisms in a food chain recieves the least amount of energy from the sun. Thus the flow of energy in a food chain is one directional or non-cyclical.
Decomposers feed on both the remains of dead organisms and faeces.
Energy is transferred and nutrients in the dead organisms and faeces are returned to the environment. Thus, the flow of nutrients is cyclical.
