Jacob’s Early Life & Marriage (Gen 29–31)
Works another 7 years to marry Rachel.
Has 12 sons and a daughter with Leah, Rachel, Bilhah, and Zilpah.
He falls in love with Rachel and agrees to work 7 years to marry her, but is tricked into marrying Leah.
Eventually leaves Laban with his family and wealth.
Jacob flees from Esau and goes to his uncle Laban in Haran.
Jacob’s Return & Name Change (Gen 32–35)
Reunites peacefully with Esau.
Prepares to meet Esau and wrestles with an angel; his name is changed to Israel.
Rachel dies giving birth to Benjamin.
Jacob settles in Canaan.
Joseph’s Dreams and Betrayal (Gen 37)
Joseph has prophetic dreams showing he will rule over his family.
His jealous brothers sell him into slavery in Egypt and deceive Jacob by faking his death.
Joseph, Rachel’s firstborn, is Jacob's favorite; he gives Joseph a coat of many colors.
Joseph in Egypt (Gen 39–41)
In prison, he interprets dreams for Pharaoh’s cupbearer and baker.
Later, he interprets Pharaoh’s dreams about famine and is made governor of Egypt.
Joseph prospers in Potiphar’s house but is falsely accused by Potiphar’s wife and imprisoned.
The Famine and Family Reunion (Gen 42–45)
Joseph recognizes his brothers but hides his identity at first.
After testing their character, he reveals himself and forgives them.
A famine drives Jacob to send his sons to Egypt to buy grain.
Jacob’s Journey to Egypt (Gen 46–47)
God reassures Jacob about going to Egypt.
Jacob meets Pharaoh and blesses him.
Joseph invites Jacob and the whole family to live in Goshen, Egypt.
Jacob’s Final Blessings and Death (Gen 48–50)
He gives final blessings to his 12 sons (some blessings are prophecies).
Jacob dies and is buried in Canaan.
Jacob blesses Joseph’s sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, giving the younger (Ephraim) the greater blessing.
Joseph assures his brothers of his forgiveness after Jacob’s death.
Joseph lives to see generations of his children and dies in Egypt.
