Types of energy:
Potential energy
There are different types of potential energy, depending on the field (gravitational, electrical…) the body is.
Gravitational Potential energy {Eg,p]
It is the energy a body stores due to its POSITION.It increases with height (the reference point is the ground). 
Elastic Potential energy [Ep,e}
It is the energy a body stores due to deformation, like a spring
Kinetic energy
Is the energy a body has due to its movement

Mechanical energy
The sum of the kinetic energy and potential energy of a body. In a process, potential energy stored can be transformed into kinetic energy and vice versa.

Electrical energy
Energy that electric charges have when in motion. If the charges move in an orderly manner, an electric current is produced.

Chemical energy
Energy possessed by substances that is released during a chemical reaction, when some bonds are broken and new ones are formed.

Nuclear energy
Energy released by the nuclei of atoms when they combine (nuclear fusion) or when they break apart (nuclear fission).

It is transformed
A generator transforms mechanical energy into electrical energy (dynamo, alternator)

It is stored
It is stored in batteries, cells, etc.

It is degraded
Due to friction, part of the energy is lost as heat and cannot be used.

Energy can never be created or destroyed but it is only converted, according to the Law of Conservation of Mechanical Energy.
