Materialism
Arisotle's
Form is essence, which is the defining characteristic of a thing.
For humans, this is the ability to reason.
The soul is the formal cause of the body, similar to a stamp imprint in wax
-
Aristotle argues that the form of a human is a rational soul, however neuroscience argues that rationality is reduced to material brain structures however due to the complexity of reason it is not empirically veriified
BUT, if the brain is damaged, so can a person's reasoning ability, therefore it may be a physical process, not a spiritual one
Dawkins'
Two types of soul
The view that the soul is a real thing, separate from our body (Rejected due to lack of evidence)
