Causes of unemployment
structural
technological changes in an industry so it is cheaper to get machines to do the work or industry demand is declining

Types of unemployment
Unemployment is someone of working age, willing and able to work and actively seeking employment
under-employment is an individual who is employed but their job does not fully utilise their skills and qualifications
Economic inactivity is those aged 16-64 who are neither employed nor actively seeking employment e.g. full time student
Unemployment on PPF

when unemployment increases, the PPF will shift inwards
when unemployment decreases, the PPF will shift outwards
Measures of unemployment
Claimant Count
measures unemployment based on the number of people who are claiming unemployment benefits such as Job Seekers Allowance
Labour force survey
survey to classify population as employed or unemployed through the survey and includes those not eligible for benefits
