10 Different Mathematical Activities You Can Do With Young Children (3-4 Years)
1. Counting with Everyday Objects
Use toys, fruits or blocks to help them count up to 10 or 20. Ask questions like "how many apples do we have?". In this activity one-to-one correspondence and number sense goal will be met.
3. Sorting and Classifying
Let the children sort buttons, blocks or pop-poms by color, size, or shape. Ask "Which group has more?". This will improve their logical thinking, comparing attributes.
4. Number Matching
Match number with cards with group of items (e.g. a card with the number 5 matches five small toys). This will help them with numerical recognition also with quantity association

5. Simple Patterns
Create patterns using beads, blocks or stickers (e.g. red-blue-red-blue). Let them continue or copy the pattern. This will assist in pattern recognition, early algebra.
2. Shape Hunt
Go on a shape hunt around the house or classroom. Look for circles, squares, triangles, etc. and name them. Spatial awareness, shape recognition will improve.
Sing songs like "Five Little Ducks" or "One, Two, Buckle My Shoe" with them, to reinforce counting rhythmically. This will meet the goal for oral counting and memory.
