child policy.
-
- Why does China need
the policy?
-
- How does China implement
the policy?
Families who had more than 1 child had to pay huge fines that might be larger than their salary. If they didnt pay they could lose their property
Couples who followed the policy got rewards such as cash bouneses, longer maternity leave, and better housing and job oppurtunities
Before having a baby, couples had to get premission cards from the government. If they had a child without it, the birth was considered illegal. This means that the child might not be allowed to go to school or receive healthcare.
The government used something called granny police to keep an eye on families. They visited homes and check for signs that somene ispregnant, and made sure women were using birth control.
In some areas, if a woman became pregnant without permission, she would need to have an abortion. Some women were also forced to be sterilized, which meant they could not have more children in the future.
- What are the benefits of the policy to locals?
When they are less children, the government can put more money in childrens health and education. This meant that families who did the One Child Policy often had access to better hospitals, doctors, and schools.
The policy helped the government save money, and some of those savings were used to improve pension systems for older people. Since families had fewer children to rely on in old age, the government began to offer better support for the elderly, such as pensions and retirement benefits, especially in urban areas.
- What are the unintended
effects of the policy?
Many families wanted to have a boy, especially in farm areas where boys were expected to carry on the family name and help with work. This then caused some families aborted baby girls or abandoned them. Over time, this led to a serious gender imbalance, with millions more men than women in China today.
Because girls were not needed, many were abandoned and ended up in orphanages. This caused the orphanages to become overcrowded.
The policy was so strict,
thatit is estimated that there were 200 million abortions. Many of these forced
In some areas, families who wanted more children but couldn’t legally have them turned to illegal methods, like buying or selling children. Some children were kidnapped or trafficked to meet demand, leading to a rise in child trafficking cases.
- Whats are the consquences if you don't follow the policy?
If a child was born without permission, they will not be registered by the government. This meant the child was not a legal citizen. As a result, they could not attend school, get healthcare, or have a national ID card.
In some cases, if a woman became pregnant with no premission, the government will force her to have an abortion. Some women were also forced to be sterilised, a surgery that stops them from having more children. .
Families who broke the rules had to pay fines, which could cost more than a year’s income. If they refused to pay, they could lose their jobs and homes and could even be sent to jail for not following the policy.
- What are the future
issues for China?
China now has a largeelderly people and a little amunt of young people to support them. This makes the population imbalanced, where there are not enough workers to take care of old people. This could lead to lower labour, slower economy growth, and more.
Many families with one child raised their son with a lot of attention. These boys are called Little Princes and grow up spoile. This could cause problems with social skills, responsibility, and more as they grow older.
Chinese traditions usually have large families. The One Child Policy changed this by creating smaller families and having weak family connections. It also led to the loss of many girls.
- How could we solve these
issues?
China can have a new child policy such as the Two Child Policy or the Three Child Policy. The government canalso help families with childcare, housing, and education, to make it easier for people to raise more children.
To remove gender imbalance and help unborn girls, China can have strict abortion laws.
The One Child Policy helped control the population , which gave families better healthcare and education. I disagree with what people were forced to do. Forced abortions were not good, which caused gender imbalance and an aging population.
