Sunflower growth

Activity: The children need to draw the stages of the growth of a sunflower in the right order
Earth products
Clay
Planet earth has layers. On the first layer of land, it has hard rocks, and we get minerals like gold, diamonds and coal. Earth has many types of soils and clay is one of them. ( DBEbookgrade3)
Activity: Exploring properties of clay- shape it and see it. The learners will each get a piece of clay then they can shape it in anything, Strech it to see hoe flexible it is and can add water to feel and see what it does and lastly to let it dry and compare the wet clay with the dry clay.
Technology
The process of making sunflower oil
Seed are washed, dried, and pressed to extract oil, it is filtered to leave pure oil, the processed to remove any remaining impurities, process that removes any off flavours from the oil, oil is bottled and ready to be sold. ( Flowerpursuite)
Activity: The children will get 3d objects that represent the process of making sunflower oil and their job is to put the objects into the right order.
The process of making bricks
Securing clay, Mixing and forming, Drying (Frying and cooling), Automation, coloring and texturing of brick. (Britannica)
Activity: The children will get flash cards of the processes of making bricks, their job is to put it in the right order.
Social Science
Where is the clay mines located?
Noth- America, South America and Europe (thediggings)
Activity: Each student will get a map of the world , their job is to find and count all the mines on the map.
Sunflower Farms
90% of the sunflower farms is in the FreeState and North-west (H.L.Loubser)
Activity: Each student will get a map of South - Africa their job is to make their sunflower symbols on the FreeState and North-west province, they can look at my example on the board.
