The Creature's lack of communication in Chapter 5, he mimics that of an infant struggling to speak, 'His jaws opened, and he muttered some inarticulate sounds, while a grin wrinkled his cheeks.' This is very childlike and considering Victor is his creator, the Creature may view him in a more parental manner therefore attempting communication. Additionally, although seen as frightening towards Victor, to the reader this act is quite innocent due to it reflecting the motions of an infant, it displays the Creatures lack of knowledge and dependency towards Victor.
