Is climate change mostly harmful to the Earth, or could there be some good things or ways the planet might adapt to it?
History and Background
Climate change is believed to be caused by human activities, particularly the burning of fossil fuels such as gas, carbon dioxide and the fumes emitting from factories.
Throughout its history, Earth has experienced multiple periods of time where temperatures have been hotter than it is today.
In 1938 climate change was accidentally discovered when a little known scientist decided to take a break from his day job and collect research from 147 weather stations from around the world. He discovered from his calculations that the temperature had risen over 0.3°C in the past 50 years.
Hook
Researchers, celebrities, and people in power try to scare us with the threat of climate change, but have you ever stopped to wonder if it is really that bad?
The threat of climate change has been built up to this huge problem that cant be fixed, that is damaging and horrible, but have you ever thought that maybe it's not all it's made up to be?
Argument #2
Food supply in 2050
With the earth becoming greener more plants have the opportunity to grow creating more resources for us to use as food.
Scientists say we will need to feed around 2 billion more people in 2050, the earth will have to adapt so we can grow more with less.
Plants, including ones we eat, need CO2 to be able to survive, because they breath in carbon like we breath in oxygen.
Thesis
Even though climate change has been built up to be a huge problem that we cant fix, the truth is that our world can adapt to it, and it can help our growing needs.
Argument #1
Greener is better
-
People complain about how we don't have enough trees, well now we will
Specialized Info
CO2 is so saturated in earth’s atmosphere that more CO2, manmade or natural, will have little impact on the climate.
Global warming and cooling are primarily caused by fluctuations in the sun’s heat (solar forcing), not by human activity
