EDF-1061 Concept Map (Three Domains of Teaching)
Professional Knowledge.
How effective teachers create and maintain supportive environments.
Practitioner Inquiry:
Effective teachers investigate their practices to improve them. They gather and analyse evidence, taking a point of view that seeks to understand how everything works rather than define best practices. Hargreaves (2003) advocates for practitioners to share their "intellectual and social capital" to benefit the whole of the collective professional community.

Action Learning and Reflection:
As defined by Ewing and Kerwin (2023), action learning generally refers to the learning a group may undergo when dealing with an issue or other challenge. Professional knowledge is utilised in collaboration with colleagues, with reflection often proceeding from this.
Loughran (2010) argues that a reflective practitioner necessitates far more than is generally understood by the term. This means acknowledging the complex knowledge, skills, experiences and even time periods that form contexts within reflection.
How effective teachers get to know students and how they learn.
Following strategies that maximise learning, such as:
Analysing their own attitudes towards learning.
Reflecting on their learning.
Understanding the context they work within.
Cultivating collaborative work practices.
Building their capacity to be resilient.
Understanding Learning Theories:
Effective teachers apply theories that are based on an orderly set of ideas which explain, describe and predict behaviour. They are important to learn as they help cater to the diverse needs of students.
Professional Experience.

Developing class cohesiveness:
Effective teachers develop ways that encourage class cohesiveness, fostering a sense of familiarity where everyone within a classroom sees themself as a valued member of the whole (Ewing and Kerwin 2023).
How effective teachers engage professionally with colleagues, parents/carers, and the community.
Recognising themselves as co-learners:
Effective teachers understand that they don't completely develop after graduating, and that they are constantly learning from their respective communities.

Developing positive learning relationships:
As Ewing and Kerwin (2023) state, "it is the educator's responsibility to value each and every one of the learners in their class". Utilising strategies such as speaking to learners one on one, taking note of their interests and sharing yourself evenly amongst each student all contribute to achieving this.

Ethical Practice:
Having established guidelines for teachers to act in good conscience positively benefits learners, contributing to their safety and wellbeing.

Communities of Practice (CoP): refers to a group of practitioners with a shared interest, who work together to gain a stronger comprehension of their work and how it can be bettered (Ewing and Kerwin 2023).

Planning, preparing and assessment:
Effective educators understand that leaners have differing abilities, interests and learning preferences. They effectively balance the needs of the curriculum with their own personal expertise and apply that to formulate plans for the learners that they teach.
