Teachers’ Knowledge and Readiness towards Implementation of School-Based Assessment (SBA)
Introduction
Aims to transform the education system and enhance assessment methods.
Implementation of SBA in Malaysian secondary schools since 2012.
Objectives of the Study
Assess teachers' knowledge and readiness for SBA.
Identify challenges faced by teachers in implementing SBA.
Methodology
Conducted in 15 secondary schools in Kedah, Malaysia.
Sample size: 155 teachers from a total of 260.
Utilized two questionnaires to measure knowledge (30 items) and readiness (35 items).
Findings
Teachers’ Knowledge
Overall mean knowledge score: 3.27 .
Teachers’ Readiness
Overall mean readiness score: 3.09.
Challenges
Lack of complete understanding of SBA.
Increased workload and time constraints.
Insufficient training and resources.
Need for more initiatives from educational authorities.
Implications
Teachers require ongoing support and training.
Importance of enhancing teachers' knowledge and confidence.
Need for a shift from examination-oriented assessments to continuous assessments.
