High birth rates are common in poorer regions due to limited access to contraception, lack of education, cultural and religious beliefs, and economic need for children to work or support the family. Poor healthcare, high infant mortality, and low life expectancy also lead families to have more children.

high infant mortality rates (people have more children hoping some will survive)
poverty and need for children to work or support the family
cultural and religious influences encouraging large families
women stay at home and do not work outside
