Strong katabatic winds. These winds are strongest in the steep areas of Antartica. Gales of 60-70mph winds are known to occur roughly 40 days a year.
Its ecosystem is not very diverse because of its cold, harsh environment.

Large oil reserves are located in the Southern ocean and iron ore deposits are rich in the Transantartic mountains.

The UNEP's legislation and research into global environmental problems, such as ozone depletion and global warming, work to protect Antartica.

Convince governments to prevent mineral exploitation, as well as allowing NGO's in the governance of Antartica.
Main focuses: overall environmental protection, monitoring marine protected areas, wildlife conservation, krill conservation, climate change and governance.
