MAINS ELECTRICITY
CIRCUITS
For electrical charge to flow through a closed circuit, the circuit must include a source of PD
-
The current at any point on a single loop closed series circuit has the same value as the current at any other point ( NOT TRUE FOR PARALLEL CIRCUIT)
-
PARALLEL CIRCUITS
-
-
The total resistance of two resistors is less than the resistance of the smallest individual resistor
-

-
The current through an OHMIC CONDUCTOR at a constant temperature is directly proportional to the PD across the resistor

STATIC ELECTRICITY
When certain insulators are rubbed together, they gain an electric charge
Electrons are rubbed off of one and on to the other, making one become negatively charged, and the other postively charged
The greater the charge on an isolated object is, the greater the PD (potential difference ) will be between the object and the earth
If the PD gets too high, a spark can form to jump across the gap between the object and a nearby earthed conductor
-
When two of these charged objects are brought close together they exert a force on each other; repelling if they carry the same charge, and attracting if they have different
