FOCUS:Looks at job boards in Addis Ababa.
There was survey cluster and 3 job boards
One job board was treated:
Two subsets:
- Transport subsidy
- CV workshop
RESULTS:
Impact on job search:
Transport subsidy has significant impact even after the subsidy stopped
CV workshop had no impact on job search
Impact on formal work:
The second treatment significant effect on permanent work as it reduces the info asymmetry.
Both have significant on finding formal work in short term
But over time the control mean changes
The paper understands it as a general increase in the ability to get formal work.
After 4 years the CV workshop still has a significant effect on outcomes
Conclusion:
- The impact of the transport subsidy is positive significant. Shows that job searchers are credit constrained
However, the workshop and test score did not help job search
In short term the transport subsidy:
Subsidy increases probability of finding job
Decreases casual employment while searching
Increases probability of finding permanent jobIn the short term the workshop:
Does not increase search intensity
Increases chance of finding permanent jobOnly the workshop has long term effects. Had a bigger impact

- More compact cities have lower wages
- Workers need 5% more income for 1SD less compactness
- Lewis (1954) marginal improvement, illusory improvement
- Firm side has no impact on productivity
- No impact on firm location
