Math strategies with precentages
1%
1% = 0.01 so multiply the number by 0.01 then move the decimal 2 places to the left
10%
10% = 0.1 so multiply the number by 0.1 then move the decimal 2 places to the left
5%
Find 10% of the number, and divide your answer by 2.
15%
Find 10% of the number, find 5% of the number, and add them together
Hint: This works for a lot of different precentages!
50%
Divide the number by 2 (in half)
25%
Divide the number by 2, then divide by 2 again
Adding and Subtracting Fractions
Rules
Fractions MUST have the same bottom (denominator) amount.
You can add or subtract the top numbers (numerators) normally.
Write the SAME denominator for your anwser.
Simplify your anwser
Methods
Try to exactly divide (only whole number answers) both the top and bottom of the fraction by 2, 3, 5, 7 ,... etc. Keep going until we can't go any further.
Divide both the top and bottom of the fraction by the Greatest Common Factor (you have to work it out first!).
When the denominators are the same, the sum is obtained by adding the numerators and retaining the common denominator.
If the fractions possess different denominators, it is necessary to transform them into equivalent fractions with a common denominator. The most efficient common denominator to utilize is the least common multiple (LCM) of the original denominators.
Adding fractions
Step 2: Add the top numbers (the numerators), put that answer over the denominator
Step 3: Simplify the fraction (if possible)
Step 1: Make sure the bottom numbers (the denominators) are the same
Subtracting Fractions
Step 1. Make sure the bottom numbers (the denominators) are the same
Step 2. Subtract the top numbers (the numerators). Put the answer over the same denominator.
Step 3. Simplify the fraction (if needed).
Multiplying and Dividing Fractions
Multiplying Fractions
!. Mutiply the numerators and denominators
2, Simplify if possible
Dividing Fractions
Flip the dividing fraction.
Multiply the fractions normally!
If you need to, simplify your answer.
