3 types of rocks!
Sedimentary rocks
Formed from compaction and cementation
Compaction meaning things being compacted or squeezed together. Cementation meaning cementing or gluing together.
Sediments are little tiny rocks that have been broken down because of weathering
Those are classified by the sizes, starting from the smallest, clay, silt, sand, pebble, cobble, then boulder.

Three different types of sedimentary rocks
Clastic sedimentary rocks
Made out of different types of pre-existing rocks
Chemical sedimentary rocks
Made out of solidified minerals from water solutions
Organic sedimentary rocks
Formed from the remains of dead organisms.
Igneous rocks
Formed from the cooling ans solidification of magma or lava.
Magma = found under the sufrace
Lava = found above the surface
Two types of igneous rocks:
Intrusive rocks
from magma
because it is under the surface, it is very warm
Therefore, it cools very slowly, allowing crystals to grow as well
Extrusive rocks
made from lava
form on the surface
Because they cool quickly, very little to no crystals form
Some can be vesicular
Vesicular meanings it can contain air bubbles
Bassalte
Obsidian
Granite
Magma
lava
Metamorphic rocks
Changed rocks due to exposure to intense heat or pressure
There are two types of metamorphic rocks
Contact metamorphic rocks
Started as pre-existing rocks at the earth surface
Magma intrudes and burns those pre-existing rocks
That burning allows the rocks to metamorphosize (transform) into something new
Basically, contact metamorphic rocks are formed when they are in contact with magma
Regional metamorphic rocks
Formed from immense pressure
When two plates start to come together, there will be pressure
The rocks that were originally there, transform because of that new pressure
Gneiss
Marble
Quartz
Rock types are differentiated by how it was made
