To what extent should the U.S government invest in residential treatment…

        This is what the government has as of right now and in my opinion, it is an accessible resource, but we need more. More rehab centers that provide things like education, individualized treatment, etc. the government needs to do this if we want to decrease these rates.

        Studies have proven that states that have already legalized drugs like marijuana show that usage and addiction rate among young adults does not always increase. The basis of government involvement regarding spending on residential treatment may be based on simply false assumptions and accusations.

      - Instead of spending money on expensive inpatient institutions, the government might invest in education, early intervention, and easily accessible outpatient care to have better results. This shows that residential treatment is not as effective than community-based outpatient programs.
      - Addiction has many factors to it including trauma, genetics, and mental health. Government focus should be more on investments on residential treatment due to legalization may have an ineffective policy.
      - Federal action may not be as sustainable as promoting accountability and local initiatives
      - Expanding residential treatment may not be as beneficial in reducing addiction as investing in housing, education, and job training.
