FACTORS AFFECTING RATES
-
TEMPERATURE
-
-
This is because when temperature increases, the particles are given more energy and collide more often, causing quicker reactions
CONCENTRATION
When you increase the concentration within the reactants, the rate of reaction increases
When you decrease , it decreases
This is because when the concentration is higher, more particle are available to react, allowing a faster reaction
CATALYSTS
a substance that speeds up a chemical reaction, or lowers the temperature or pressure needed to start one, without itself being consumed during the reaction
-
SURFACE AREA
When the surface area increases, the rate of reaction increases
This is because the higher the surface area, the more particles are initially available to react, making the ROR faster
COLLISION THEORY
-
The theory that reactions occur when reactant particles collide with sufficient energy and correct orientation
When the particles do not have enough energy, they cannot collide with enough force, and the reaction cannot happen
If the particles are not oriented correctly, certain parts of the particle do not hit each other, meaning they cant react
