.the motte and bailey was the first type of castle
it was a mount of earth with a castle on top
the motte and baily contained various buildings ~~ 1]lodging for the soldiers . 2] stables for the horses. 3] workshops and kitchens . 4] hall where meals were eaten
the bailey was surrounded by a moat

the castle was surrounded by a deep ditch filled with water ,called the
moat
in the gatehouse , the drawbridge and the portcullis were found

at the age of seven, a boy would be sent to live with the family of another lord he would learn how to ride a horse , use a sword and sing and dance .
STAGE 2:SQUIRE
aged 14, the boy began learning to fight on horseback . he would accompany the lord into battle
STAGE 3:KNIGHT
at the age of 21 he was eligible to become a knight he had to swear the
oath
of chivalry (to stay loyal to his lord , protect the poor and to be brave in battle )
