Set
Create a raised platform for the judges to emphasize their authority. The audience should feel the tension of being in a courtroom, with the layout suggesting a divide between the accusers and the accused.
A few wooden benches for spectators can create a sense of confinement, while a large, imposing table for the judges and a smaller one for the defendants can highlight the power dynamics

As the act progresses, the lights would gradually brighten and coolen in temperature too, to show how dawn has broken over the course of the act
When Betty tries to jump out the window, there would be a spotlight centred on her to show how the action is all on her at this point in the act
-
Set
-
Black tree silhouettes/shadows on each wing to represent how the girls have been out in the woods the night before
Oak wooden overhead beams which were commonplace to construct buildings in this time period. They would be motorised and gradually be lowered throughout the act/extract to show how pressure and tension is increasing
Oak wooden beams for the flooring, since oak was plentiful in Salem, and they would have scuffs and no wood varnish, since this was not available in Puritan Salem
