Types of HEV
PHEV
Larger battery & longer electric range compared to Full Hybrids
• Can run purely on electric power (EV mode) for a significant distance
(typically 30-100 km)
• Dual power sources – operates as an electric vehicle until the battery
depletes, then switches to the internal combustion engine (ICE)
• Regenerative braking to recharge the battery
• Can be charged via a plug (unlike MHEVs and FHEVs

• Can drive on electric power alone (unlike MHEVs, which always need the engine) Regenerative braking to recharge the battery

Power-split hybrid
It combines the advantages of series and parallel layouts but at the expense of increased mechanical complexity. A proportion of the engine power is converted to electric power by the alternator, with the remaining power used to drive the wheel using the motor. The electrical path can be used at low power requirements, and the mechanical path for higher power requirements. This is a strong hybrid system.
