      - Sharp contrast between Charlie and Jamila's way of life
        
        Charlie is very action oriented and impulsive; Jamila thinks it through and is more passive
      - Haroon goes against Karim's mom and falls in love with Eva
        
        This scars Karim, he doesn't instantly realize this hurt
        
        I believe this broken relationship is one reason why he is so open sexually
        
        he is bisexual

        Natalie is a host of a party; her goal is to please others and cater to them
        
        she has never lived for herself, she only thinks of others and ends up discarding herself
        
        Felix gets murdered, he ends up dying
        
        Leah and Natalie were best friends, they meet towards the end of the novel when they're both going through hard times
        
        Natalie lectures her instead of comforting her and being open about her struggles
        
        The distance that started in their teens when Leah changed her preferences has widened
        
        Keisha marries Frank as a way out of her council estate past, even changing her name to Natalie
        
        Natalie and Frank move to start a new life as a middle-class family
        
        Leah and Nathan stay behind and continue their lives in the same neighborhood

        His two children differ in reaction, Louisa slowly lets it destroy her, Tom rebels
        
        Tom actively rebels and goes against his father
      - Industrial society vs humanity
        
        Purpose is to show the effect that this type of society has on humans
        
        Two ways of living, the effects/outcome of each which is shown by the characters
      - Sissy Jupe is the character that shines light on Gradgrind and his family, she provides a reference to contrast the facts way of living and the circus way of life
        
        She helps Louisa in a way, comforts and takes care of her
      - Stephen Blackpool has a tragic ending; he does not get a happy ending or even a normal ending
      - Strong contrast between Thomas Gradgrind (facts) and Sissy Jupe (circus)
        
        Sissy even though she is a part of the circus (carefree, humane) life, gets abandoned by her father. Louisa on the other hand ends up with a dad who was materialistic but changes in the end
        
        You would think Sissy Jupe would end up with her dad and live happily

- - - - Mrs. Dalloway is an optimistic person who loves throwing parties and pays attention to even the little details in life, somewhat carefree
        
        Clarissa is the host of the party
      - author is creative with their writing freedom
      - Contrast between Clarissa (optimist) and Septimus (pessimist)
      - With just one day, the author pays attention to every detail, every moment, every thought, and every character
        
        there is not a single overwhelming main character, the other characters have their moments to shine brighter than just a side character
      - Unique multi-perspective scene when a possible car of royalty is passing by
      - Clarrisa empathizes with Septimus, such a deep thought process there
      - Septimus suffers from ptsd from the war, his wife is burdened by this, wanting to go back to normal
      - Clarrisa is in love with her husband
        
        Peter loves her but also doesn't like the way she lives
      - Septimus ends up taking his own life, dying in the end

    - - Kerans/Bodkin vs Strangman/Beatrice/Hardman
        
        Kerans surrendering to the changing world and Hardman resisting, trying to keep the old world
        
        Strangman trying to keep what is of the whole world and remove the changing world
      - The purpose is to show the effect of this increasingly materialistic industrial world
        
        in the far future because of global warming
      - Strangman drains the swamp to get what he wants, he doesn't let anything stand in his way
        
        Hardman is refusing to adapt but instead, he suggests moving north to avoid it
        
        none of these will lead to anything good
      - Kerans and Bodkin were running experiments to speed up evolution
        
        They both end up being the only two characters to move south instead
        
        Beatrice originally wanted to join Kerans but ended up staying behind
      - The world has been submerged, temperatures are rising, storms are getting worse, animals/plants have gotten bigger and wilder
      - Kerans moves south
