The Story of Fredrik Backman
The Creative Process
:pencil2:
Inspiration from open houses
Backman and his wife attended numerous open houses which sparked the idea of strangers coming together in a confined space.
He began writing after a burnout and "hitting a wall"
This allowed him to truly channel his experiences and use them to tell a story through the novel.
A photo of Backman during a speech about his own creative anxiety and struggles with procrastination while writing.
Backman focuses on emotion throughout his writing
He starts his writing process with deciding what emotions he wants his reader to feel by the end of the story which helps him guide the process of creating his own world for the story.

Questions
1. Why is passion an important aspect in people’s lives?
Passion is important in peoples lives as it gives them something to live for and guides your choices. Passion is what drove the robbers decision to rob the bank, because of the passion he had for his children. Wasn't the smartest choice but he did it out of love and with the right intentions.
2. Why is friendship important in life?
Friendship is important in life because we as people need connection during difficult times which is what I believe will happen throughout the story as we learn more about what happens while the people are being held hostage. This group of strangers in such a tight space will eventually find connections and become a friend to rely on for each other in such a stressful moment.
3. Why is forgiveness important in life?
Forgiveness is important as allows people to let go of the anger and pain that may hold them back allowing them to heal and move forward. Forgiveness also allows us to grow and build stronger connections on deeper levels as forgiveness allows you to understand people on deeper levels.
Controversy
Some people may feel that the story is overly sentimental and make it sound a little preachy due to how much it tries to connect it to the readers lives and make it relatable.
Authors Background

Fredrik Backman had a close friend who ended his like when Fredrick was 20 years old and stated that "that never stops affecting you."
This event in his life could have influenced the story of
Anxious People
as so far in the book, the story goes back and forth between the hostage event and a man who jumped off a bridge, as well as the bank robber shooting himself before he gets caught.
Fredrik Backman has two kids of his own.
The experience of having your own two kids could have easily influenced the creation of this story as it revolves around a bank robber trying to get his act together so his wife won't be able to have full custody of his kids which results in him making stupid decisions, such as robbing a bank because of how much he loves them.
Fredrik Backman was shot in the leg during a robbery leaving him to walk on crutches for a long period of time and turning to therapy because he became scared of everything.
I believe that this strongly influenced the story as it mainly revolves around the attempted robbery and the use of a gun which could be a relfection on what Backman experienced.
Fredrik Backman and his wife were looking at a lot of open houses and he found himself looking at the other people looking at the house, rather than the house itself.
This could've influenced the story as the hostage situation is held in an open house and dives into the lives of the other people in the house
