Names
Our kids, not just sound but also meaning
God reveals His nature, His heart, and His mission through His names.
Names carry weight. They represent identity, relationship, and sometimes even destiny.

In moments where I feel powerless, I don’t need information about God, I need a revelation of who God is.

In Scripture, God often reveals His name in response to someone’s situation. He does not reveal it as information, like hi I am Judith, no it’s a revelation of His character.

consumed by your kids schedules and demands, Sleep deprivation sets our minds on autopilot, job feel like a holiday compared to motherhood.
spiritual children here in church, have a way of bringing us back to our Creator.

God is saying, “This is who I am for you.” This is a new way to use your rice cooker.
You see, God doesn’t reveal all of Himself at once. He reveals who He is as we need Him.
These names aren’t just titles — they are revelations. They are invitations to trust God in a new way.

Sometimes we get so used to something, we don’t realize it until we have had an upgrade.
Jireh, provider - Rapha, healer - shalom, peace - el roi, who sees me
God continues to reveal Himself to us personally — not with new theology, but with fresh intimacy. He shows up in your pain, your fear, your waiting — and says, “Here’s who I want to be for you right now

Yahweh

El Shaddai does not occur anymore after a few mentions in the Old Testament. Many names of God are a direct revelation of a character aspect of God for that situation. God progressively reveals himself.
We don’t always need a new kitchen appliance. Sometimes we just need to discover more about the ones we already have.

This is God's personal name. Not just a title — not just "the God of power" — but the God who is. Present.
rice cooker: grains, soups, steamed vegetables, eggs, pasta, omelets, curries, and cakes.
I can trust the One who is — Yahweh, the ever-present God.
understanding why God almighty did not decide to exert His almighty power, God revealed to me another aspect of who He is.
Not the transcendent Creator God, not El Shaddai the all powerful God, no, the imminent God here with me now.

Parenting powerless, like me nothing you can do.

Sometimes life confronts us with battles we cannot fight. Situations we cannot fix. Wars we didn’t start. Injustice we cannot make right.

This morning, you will discover how He reveals Himself more and more clearly throughout history and to us — and we’ll see it through the lens of His names.

Elohim & El Shaddai
Elohim – The Creator God - God’s sovereignty, and majesty. He speaks and galaxies explode into existence. He created that very small bug that captured Raphaël’s attention. God is big, transcendent.

Genesis 17:1-2 - Abram - kidding me, ancient, now kids? - don't doubt me, I am God almighty. El Shaddai. - chuckles - Sara - menopause - also chuckles.

El Shaddai “moves mountains, opens wombs, parts seas, calms storms.”
Dad - missionary - burnout - mental health - dad abandoned God. Bible college Sydney. brother called. dad monastery. fasted & prayed. made steps towards God. Miracle. El Shaddai. another phone call. cheated on mom. divorce.
then I learned something. the God of the impossible, does not always do the impossible.
If God is God of the impossible, why did He not continue to heal my dad, why does he not heal my son, punish and abolish injustice, bring peace in war.

Naomi doesn't stay in this bitterness. Through Ruth comes Obed, grandfather of David, the lineage of Christ.
But its not just that, a deeper encounter with God that her loss made possible.

Naomi, after losing her husband and two daughters, returns to Bethlehem.
Naomi is a representation of us all—we have dreams, expectations, and assumptions about what God’s blessings should look like.
Ministry and altar call
In Jesus, God steps into the story. He doesn’t just reveal His name; He becomes flesh. Every name of God in the Old Testament — El Shaddai, Jehovah Jireh, El Roi — finds its fulfillment in Jesus.
He is our provider, healer, Jesus — Yeshua, “The Lord saves.”
