favoured by the gods
favoured by venus helping him- she creates new armour for him to help him win in battle. she pulls the spear out of the tree to help him in battle with turnus, she covers him with the mist to protect him from the carthaginians, venus stops him from killing Helen, venus makes the carthaginians less hostile, however she tells Jupiter to let aeneas be tossed to the storm- however could just be a bluff
juno hates him- tries to sink all of their ships in book 1, 'why did she drive a man so famous for his peity to endless suffering' she makes dido crazily in love with aeneas so he stays in Carthage and abandons the fate of rome, she opens the gates of war and starts the war between the Latins and trojans, she sends allecto. juno tells jaturna to do anything she can to restart the battle between the trojans and Latins, in book 5 she makes the trojan women set the ships on fire
jupiter is more on the side of rome, which as a result is aeneas. however rome is always at the centre. Jupiter sends mercury at the end of book 4 to get him away from dido, in book 5 he puts the ships fire out, Jupiter makes juno renounce her anger to Jupiter.

stoicism
when they all nearly died in the storm he put on a face so his men wouldn't know he too was scared.'showed his men his face of hope and kept misery deep in his heart'. compared to a 'mighty oak' 'he felt pain in his heart yet mind left unmoved' not controlled by emotion.

rome as the centre
he dosent want to be on this journey however he knows his duty to found the city so continues
he leaves Carthage for ascanius and rome rather than stay with dido.

father and son
when they are fleeing troy, he brings ascanius and Anchises with him.
leadership
he leads his men to rome, when his people see him return to their camp it gave 'fresh hope tot heir anger'. diplomatic relations with other nations, against- covered in mist by venus lets men supplicate dido, he dosent speak until achates prompts him too'. in book one again ilioneus tells dido aeneas is a good leader without knowing he is there. in book 4 he is disconnected from his men when they wanted to leave dido.
showing emotion
when he kills turnus. when he sees his father in the underworld, when he tries to hub creases ghost in book 2. when he wants to set ilium on fire 'get your torches now we are here to claim our treaty with fire.'- furour
when he realises venus is in disguise again he becomes upset that he always plays her little games with him.
when he tells the story of troy 'frenzy and anger drove him on'.
time and kleos
he wants to be great to build this legacy for ascanius
when he kills turnus
when he wants vengeance for killing Helen- 'I shall win praise from blotting out this evil'
when aeneas decides to fight for troy when hector tells him to leave troy straight away and to take his family, no thought of his wife/son/father he is blindsided by fighting
-
looks
effeminate phyrigian, he curls his hair and uses perfume, compared to Paris. in book 4 as they go out to the hunt they are draped in gold and purple, elaborate armour made from Vulcan 'huge aeneas'- visually impressive. everyone is awestruck by him, he was so much bigger than turnus
skilled with words
in book one when he calms down his army and consuls them. book 2 he rouses men to battle and convinces them to follow him into a fight they know they will loose (fall of troy). he speaks to the messengers for the bodies and tells them how he never wanted war and it convinces the politician who hates turnus drances, ways he was not skilled in words is when aeneas and dido break up.
