Strategic leadership
premised on the belief that strategic leadership is the leaders ability to influence others to make day-to-day decisions
enhance the long term viability of the organisation while at the same time maintaining its short term financial stability (Rowe, 2001)

criteria
leader is credible in making that choice because they have had to make choices which are perceived to be similar/parallel in their past
leader takes on the risk - reducing the anxiety levels in the organisations as a whole - leaders behaviour must convince people that their self-confidence is well founded
the direction is at the edge of what people already do or understand - it is not a complete change bit a shift
'main idea' - enables to begin to take up leadership roles - the potential chaos and anarchy that the idea of distributed leadership potentially engenders can be avoided (Turnbull James et al., 2008, p. 80)
concept embodied in the 'main idea' must reflect the organisations identity sufficiently for people to be able to recognise and then identify with it and own it
