Criteria
- Extreme fear out of proportion that cannot be reasoned away
- Not under voluntary control
- Associated with escalating avoidance of the specific situation

Social Phobias
Extreme variant of shyness
Can cause excessive fear and worry in social situations
Associated with strong avoidance behaviours 0 can extend to most social situations - leads to isolation

Agoraphobia
Fearing and avoiding places or situations that might cause panic / make one feel trapped or helpless

Situations are actively avoided and entered only under particular circumstances such as presence of trusted persio (counterphobic phenomenon)
Can occur with (90%) or without (10%) panic attacks
Initial episode of panic tiggers avoidance, gradually widening to include any environment away from home

Episode of intense anxiety / fear with a rapid onset of several physical and psychological anxiety symptoms

Characterised by recurrent and unexpected panic attacks that are not situation specific, ocuring in a variety of setting, initally spontaneous with no apparent trigger

A diffuse, chronic sense of uneasiness, uncertainty and apprehension not related to a specificl event, object or situation

When there is a particular target for feeling anxious, as in phobic states (specific obejcts), health anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (recurring and unwanted thoughts), or social anxiety (particular situation)
