Relative clauses
Defining relative
Clauses add secondary information to a sentence.
We can leave out the relative pronoun if is the object of the relative clause
Example: I’ve met someone (that) I really like.
We cannot leave out the pronoun if it is the subject of the clause.
Example: The taxi that has arrived isn’t for us.

Non-defining relative
Clauses qualify a noun to tell us exactly which person or thing is being referred to.
Relative pronouns cannot be left out of NDR clausses.
Example: Carl, who works in my office, has five kids.
