Eastern Orthodox – one of the three main branches of Christianity, major influence in Greece, the Slavic countries, and the Soviet Union (Smith 323). Broke from the Roman Catholic Church in 1054, it broke into groups but they all consider themselves Eastern Orthodox first, very closely aligned with the catholics. Two main differences: Eastern Orthodox is pretty strict that in order to be saved it must be together through the church, and in administration. Eastern Orthodox can pick their clergy, Roman Church it’s all about hierarchy (Smith 330).
