DEMOCRACY AND PARTICIPATION - Evaluate the view that think-tanks, lobbyists and pressure groups have too much influence on political life in the UK:
PARA ONE: Think tanks
Yes: too much influence
Think tanks have a lot of influence over policy making. EG: institute of economic affairs of the Fabians. The Fabians have a lot of involvement with the Labour government at the moment. For example, health sec Wes Streeting spoke at their last conference in London.
Not really:
Much like pressure groups, this influence may be significant but is not a harmful thing. Think tanks are a way in which governments can make informed and relevant decision-making without furthering the interests of one individual.

PARA TWO: Lobbyists
Yes: too much influence
Lobbyists can be used to further the interests of wealthy individuals, they do not support democracy and participation in this way

Final judgement:
Overall, lobbying only benefits the interests of wealth individuals and allow them to set the agenda, though they represent a very small portion of the population. Think tanks can aid informed decision making, this does not need to be left to lobbyists. Therefore, they have too much influence
