Exposition
As Gunadharma develops the blueprint for Borobudur in the midst of Central Java's beautiful scenery, the story opens in the ninth century. As they talk about the temple's spiritual mission, Prince Samaratungga's support is evident.
Rising action
As construction moves forward, the cooperation of workers and craftspeople is evident. But when it shifts toward Islam starting around the 14th century, layers of ash and vegetation cover Borobudur, leaving it neglected and abandoned.
Climax
Following local myths, Raffles discovers Borobudur in 1814. His enthusiasm receives a lot of attention, but because explorers and treasure seekers are becoming more interested, it also presents preservation issues.
Falling action
Maia, a modern tour guide, considers the significance of the 20th-century restoration efforts led by UNESCO and the Indonesian government. She tells visitors that Borobudur is a living example of Indonesian culture in addition to being a monument.
Resolution
In the present era, the story ends with a ceremonial festival at Borobudur, when visitors and locals come together. In her discussion of the temple's past, Maia emphasises our shared obligation to protect it for coming generations.
