Robots and Digital Electronics
types of machines and systems
Robotics Systems
These systems replace humans in intellectual as well as manual tasks, in that they analyze their surroundings and decide what actions to take to achieve the objective for which they are design.
Mechanical System
Instead of doing a task manually, the user controls a machine that does it for them.
Automated Systems
Automated comes from the Greek automatos, meaning ¨Self-moving.¨ Automated machines work without human intervention. The operator merely supervises the system.
What is a robot?
A robot is a electromechanical system that can carry out tasks automatically based on the information it receives from its surroundings.
Components of a robot
Actuators
These devices generate the robot´s output.
Sensors
These interpret information from the robot itself or its surroundings, sending data to the control system for analysis.
Control System
This is an electronic system programmed to perform a task.
Basic of Boolean algebra and logical functions
Boolean Algebra
George Boole created a set of mathematical rules defining properties and operations over two sets. These sets can be expressed in different ways, like true/false, full/empty or one/zero, but they represent the same things.
In digital circuits, 0 represents no voltage or a voltage close to zero.1 represents an electric current of around 5 V, depending on the technology used.

Logical functions and circuits.
Digital functions
It represents all possible outputs of the combinations of inputs they receive .
Digital functions are used to represent the states of an electronic system according to its inputs, which are usually sensors that provide information. The output is usually an actuator that performs a specific task.
Truth tables are used to show all the possible.
The more complex the system of digital circuits, the more inputs and/or outputs and larger the truth table.

Digital systems.
Digital systems work with discrete variables that can only take on certain values from a finite set.
Analogue systems
Analogue systems can work with continous variables with an infinite number of values.
Digital Electronics
It refers to electric circuits that uses digital signals.

Functions of a robot
Cartesian
With three linear axes of control these robots can move up/down, back/forth and in/out.
Cylindrical
With two linear axes and one rotary axis, these robots can move up/down and back/forth and rotate.
Spherical
These have two rotary axes and one linear axis.
