Mountains are huge, towering landform that is significantly higher than their surrounding terrain. Acting as a barrier, they block the movement of air masses, which then forces wind to rise up. When warm air is forced to rise, it will cool down, condense, and cause precipitation; mountain barriers create distinct weather patterns on either side.
