“Some studies have reported that after-school programs reduce negative behaviors (see Tierney, Grossman, and Resch 1995; Marshall et al. 1997)” (James Burdumy , Susanne)
ANALYSIS: Beneficial to my research because they are all individual studies that show the mixed effects of afterschool programs, whether positive, negative or neutral
“Other studies have shown no effect of after-school programs on behaviors (see Baker and Witt 1996; National Institute of Child Health and Human Development Early Child Care Research Network 2004)
“Some studies report that after-school programs or after-school care increased negative behaviors (Massachusetts 2020 and Boston Public Schools 2004; Johnson and Donley 1999; Vandell and Corasaniti 1988; Baker, Gruber, and Milligan 2005).” (James, Burdumy, Susanne)

“Hypotheses about why students who attended after-school programs were more likely to misbehave during regular school include (1) students may be more fatigued and acting out because they are spending more time in school, (2) students may be influenced negatively by peers with whom they are spending time during the after-school program, or (3) students could be misbehaving more because programs tolerated behavior for which students would be disciplined during regular school.”
(James Burdumy, Susanne
ANALYSIS: This section is beneficial for my research because it is possible ideas and theories that make students misbehave during school, and whether or not if its because of after school programs or if after school programs could maybe help it or not
Motivation
This work is important in that it is measuring an aspect of positive youth development, collective efficacy, among a sample of youth that is diverse in age, race-ethnicity, and geographic locale. The measure demonstrated strong internal consistency in the dimensions of willingness to intervene and connectedness
(Smith, Emilie Philips)
ANALYSIS: Benefits my research because it confirms through research that there are many children out there who want to intervene and connect with their programs which may lead to positive outcomes
Thus, our data with children suggests that collective efficacy is comprised of two related dimensions of willingness to intervene and connectedness, each an aspect of the broader construct. (Smith, Emilie Philips)
ANALYSIS: Beneficial to my research because it explains that collective efficacy may be different for children if they do want to intervene or be connected
