Complex system approaches help to understand how higher and lower level processes affect each other.
Systematic approaches let researchers conceptualize hypothesis's in order to explore alternate theories.
Health Disparities
One of the main frustrating problems in population health.
Questions about health disparities are hard to answer but complex system methods help to gain knowledge about its causes and interventions.
Can help to explain to persistence of dependancies and feedback patterns and their resistance to interventions.
Health disparities are sometimes hard to determine their effect on someone's life, but I think that it's an important topic to continue research on and hopefully figure out some solutions to limit its negative consequences.
Stress can relate to discrimination, disadvantages, and neighborhood factors which lead to coping behaviors, such as physical health effects and stress amounts.
These factors show differences across social and racial groups.
These also illustrate the different pathways to outcomes depending on system conditions.
Feedback Loops
Positive and negative feedback loops can help with determining health system approaches.
Some examples include health and income and healthy food available.
Negative or balancing feedback loops can stabilize systematic behaviors over time.
Reinforcing feedback loops can help to improve multiple scenarios, but it can alter our ability to determine early life factors and health disparities.
Genetic Differentiation
Genetic differentiation across groups can have an affect on health differences.
An understanding of gene interactions and their environment is necessary to understand genetic variations effect on health disparities.
Methods are limited, but in order to understand gene expression, we have to take into account the relationship between environmental interactions and the role of genetic factors.
Not acknowledging the exposure to social and environmental contexts will lead to the failure of understanding relationships and overestimating their associations.
Questions still remain to scientists about early life factors and how they affect health disparities, so its hard to isolate early life from later life factors and how they progress over time.
Parent behavior towards their social environment can affect their offspring's response to stress and their health/environment.
Parents socioeconomic status can also affect their child's socioeconomic status, peer group experience, and education, which can continue on for future generations.
I found this interesting because I feel that this isn't something that is really talked about and its easy to overlook.
