Mind Map #10
A System
-
a system is a series of interconnected parts that function as a whole, the arrangement of pieces is crucial, and the system changes if you take away/add pieces
systems analysis is a variety of methods that operationalize the investigation of systems
- implementing or operationalizing systems thinking requires tools for analyzing the pieces and understanding how they fit together
Systems Diagrams
The development of systems diagrams begins with identifying the key factors that will be included in the systems
For each factor, we need to indicate (1) the direction in which it operates and (2) whether the factor operates to increase/accelerate or decrease/dampen a subsequent factor or outcome
Systems diagrams often indicate the strength or magnitude of the impact (the thicker the arrow, the greater the impact)
-
Reductionist Thinking
looks at one factor or variable at a time
reduces the problem to one potential "cause" and one potential "effect"
