Power Spectrum Analysis
(FFT)
Alpha (8-12 Hz)
usually related to relaxed awareness, meditation, and contempla- tion
Beta (12 - 20 Hz)
associated with active thinking, active attention, focus on the outside world or on solving concrete problems
Theta (4 - 8 Hz)
non-waking state
Delta (1 - 4 Hz)
Gamma (30 - 80 Hz)
considered related to cognitive processes involving different populations of neurons and to the processing of multi-sensory signals
The frequency of the these oscillations decreases as the number of neurons involved increases

multi-class
a number of stimuli are presented to the user in a ran- dom order and the user draws his attention to a specific stimulus (usually by mentally counting its occurrences).
1 more item...
il numero indica il tempo in millisecondi che intercorre tra l'induzione dello stimolo e il suo effetto nelle EEG
Steady State Visual Evoked Potential (SSVEP)
VEP (Visually Evoked Potential)
flash di immagini
In the SSVEP paradigm, flashing visual stimuli are presented at differing frequencies evoking a specific synchronized response in the EEG signal for each given target.
Analisi Hjorth
derivata prima e seconda delle EEG
activity
Activity is the variance of the amplitude fluctuations in the signal window
mobility
Mobility is calculated by taking the square root of the variance of the first derivative divided by the variance of the primary signal
complexity
Complexity is the ratio of the mobility of the first derivative of the signal to the mobility of the signal itself

Oriented Control
Mutually Oriented BCI
SISTEMA = UTENTE
Mutually-oriented BCI systems combine the functionalities of both categories, where the user and computer adapt to each other.
The combined use of mental task pattern classification and biofeedback-assisted online learning allows the computer and the user to adapt.
Enactivism
comprensione implicita
neurofeedback
User Oriented BCI
SISTEMA < UTENTE
In user-oriented BCI systems, the computer adapts to the user.
Metaphorically speaking, these systems attempt to “read” the mind of the user to control a device.
Approccio di mapping generativo
Brain driven instruments
approccio di mapping proporzionale - (Lucier)
sonificazione
spectral mapping
allows for monitoring of specific bands of EEG data through the assigning of sonic materials (e.g. pitch)
Distance matrix sonification
is concerned with neural synchronizations as a function of time, and expresses this information through a time-dependent distance matrix of spectral vectors.
Event Based Sonification
Differential sonification
allows for the comparison of data recorded of different conditions in order to detect interesting channels and frequency bands
Computer Oriented BCI
SISTEMA > UTENTE
the user adapts to the computer. These systems rely on the
capacity of the users to learn to control specific aspects of their EEG
, affording them the ability to exert some control over events in their environments.

(visivo, sonoro, aptico)
Learning Methods
Cognitive Tasks
Exogenous
the user responds positively to external stimuli (such as the highlighting of a target letter from an alphabet arrange in a square matrix)
reinforcing stimuli
requires the user to perform mental actions, such as arithmetic, visual counting, geometric figure rotation, letter composition, imagining moving an arm, and baseline (relaxation).
Endogenous
not requiring any external stimulus
Operant Conditioning
Operant conditioning expects the user to modify (condition) his behavior (operant) as a result of the consequence (feedback).
Comportamentismo
Control Mechanisms
(solo punto di vista dell'utente)
Selective control
Allow for interaction of user by way of controlling emotion, levels of relaxation or excitement, etc. to affect the end artistic result. However, user not directly responsible for the output, due to the application relying on pre-programmed artistic material.
Passive control
Heavily reliant on pre-programmed artistic material. These systems are built to respond to certain brainwave signals, which do not require interaction or intention from the user in order to create the desired signals.
Collaborative Control
Allows multiple users to interact with each other or individually but collectively, to create unique artistic experiences. Collaborative control generally also falls under the categories of passive or selective control, but with multiple users.
Direct Control
Allows users to choose specific output from toolbox-style application (e.g. similar to MS Paint). Users can directly choose musical notes or shapes or brush styles, etc. Still limited by number of options the application displays and the current technology available for use.
Control Selection
enables the user to control the details of a procedure that accomplishes an intent with little or no software automation
Goal Selection
enables the user only to communicates a goal, and it is the software that goes through the process of accomplishing that intent.
Binary Selection
N-ary Selection

Heidegger/Deurzen - Le 4 dimensioni del vivere
Umwelt
the physical world, and consist of human bio-chemical elements: genetics, biological drives, and nature
Mitwelt
the world of human relations: cultures, social structures, and rules.
Eigenwelt
the world of the personal world of the human, and is the intrapsychic: thoughts, moods, and perceptions
Uberwelt
world of transcendence. In this dimension, exist intentionality and the possibility of learning and choice: it where we make sense of our lives, and where our ideals live. This dimension does not exist as a finite or discrete entity, and unveils itself differently in different context
