trends in ionisation
ion formation
Ions are formed by the losing or gaining of electrons. positive ions are known as cations and negative ions are known as anions.

nuclear charge
nuclear charge is caused by the increase of proton number. The more protons present , the greater the electrostatic attraction and the more shielding and so it ionisation energy will increase as more energy is needed to remove
shielding
ionisation energy will increase with shielding as the electron is further away and experiences less attraction from the positive nucleus
distance
the greater the distance , the less ionisation energy is needed to ionise

fundemental particles
-
rutherford
found that atoms consisted of a positive nucleus containing protons and neutrons and that the atom was mostly empty

bohr
proposed the Bohr model , which states
