How to build an optimal intake mechanism?
Parts: Intake, scoring mechanism, stake clipper
Types of intake mechanims
Horizontal roller intake
Allows a variety of shapes of the object taken in as no precise alignment is needed.
rollers placed horizontally parallel and rotate in opposite directions. The converging force that is created from the oppositely rotating wheels pull objects towards the robot during contact.
There are size limitations as the intake relies on objects stuck between the wheels. Objects that are too large may not be able to fit
Vertical roller intake
one or more wheels rotating on a vertical axis. This mechanism is for picking up objects on the ground.
continuous roller intake
single rollers or an array of them that are constantly in contact with the object, picking up, holding, and moving without interruption.
Relatively hard to build
Materials
rubber rollers/chain links
wheels
gears
high torque motors
