ADVERBS
Definition:
Words that modify verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs to provide more information about how, when, where, to what extent, or why an action occurs.
Types of Adverbs:
Based on Function:
Adverbs of Manner: Describe how an action happens (e.g., quickly, slowly, beautifully). Example: "He runs fast."
Adverbs of Time: Indicate when an action occurs (e.g., now, yesterday, later). Example: "She will come tomorrow."
Adverbs of Place: Indicate where an action occurs (e.g., here, there, outside). Example: "He is standing outside."
Adverbs of Frequency: Indicate how often an action occurs (e.g., always, sometimes, never). Example: "I always wake up early."
Adverbs of Degree: Indicate the intensity or degree of an action, adjective, or another adverb (e.g., very, too, almost). Example: "The movie was very interesting."
Special Types:
Interrogative Adverbs: Used to ask questions (e.g., why, when, where). Example: "Why are you late?"
Relative Adverbs: Introduce a relative clause (e.g., where, when, why). Example: "This is the place where we met."
Formation of Adverbs:
By Adding -ly: Many adverbs are formed by adding "-ly" to an adjective (e.g., quick → quickly, beautiful → beautifully).
Irregular Adverbs: Some adverbs do not follow the "-ly" rule (e.g., fast, hard, well).
