Science chapter 4 test
Chemical changes
Def: When atoms bonds break so that they are rearranged into new molecules, as a result new substances are created
acid base neutralization
-
in this reactions the number of H+ ions are equal to the number of OH- ions, thus the solution is neutral and has a pH of 7
combustion
-
-
CONDITIONS
Oxidizing agent causes (sparks) the fuel to react, without it fuel cannot burn, it feeds off of it
Fuel reacts with the oxidizing agent in order to be able to release energy, this is the substance that burns to release energy
Ignition temperature is the third condition that needs to be present for the burning and release of energy to occur as the fuel needs to be at a minimum temperature to begin combustion
-
cellular respiration
Is a cemical change plus an example of slow combustion where glucose (fuel) reacts with oxygen (oxidizing agent) to produce carbon dioxide, water and ENERGY .
Photosynthesis
is a chemical change plus quite the opposite of cellular respiration as ENERGY reacts with carbon dioxide and water to release glucose (fuel) and oxygen (oxidizing agent)
