SAMPLING TECHNIQUE
PROBABILITY
all the elements have a known and non-zero probability to be chooses, ensure precision and ensure representativeness
STRATIFIED
two stages: 1. the creation of stratum that are exhaustive, exclusive, every population eleemnt should be assigned to a strata and no elements should be omitted. 2. the selection of the elemnts from the strata to create the sample based on the SRS
PROPORTIONATE
The size of the sample from each stratum is proportionate to the size of that stratum in relation to the entire population
DISPROPORTIONATE
The size of the sample from each stratum is proportionate to the size of that stratum in relation to the entire population BUT it consider also the variability (the standard deviation) of the characteristics
CLUSTER
first the creation of cluster that are non exhaustive and non exclusive. then a random sample of clusters is selected based on the SRS
-
SYSTEMATIC
the starting point is randomly selected and then the other are chosen with a logic. it is less costly beacuse the random selection happens only once.
NON PROBABILITY
the probability of any member to be choose is unkown. It is cheaper but it could be generalized and could generate bias
-
SNOWBALL
the first elements are choosen at random, and the in relation to the referents of the first group of respondents, there is the choose of the others (friend of firiend)
CONVENIENCE
"the right person at the right moment". It is based on choosing elements basing on convenience (easy accessible)
QUOTA
- the researchers divide the population into groups (quota) and then select elements based on specific characteristics to ensure the sample of respondents represents the population
